Just a few weeks ago we stayed at Unhitched Cullman Campground just outside Cullman Alabama and only a short distance from I-65. For us this was a perfect stop over campground on our way back North, but beyond the location we were pleasantly surprised by all that Cullman Campground has to offer.

Arriving at Cullman Campground was quite uneventful given it's close proximity to I-65. After a long day of driving, the last thing you want is to be fighting heavy traffic or a poorly marked route to the campground. With that said, be sure to follow the signs for the campground once you get off of highway 157. The signs are easy to see and the route is well marked, but your GPS (like ours did) is likely to try to route you straight down Co Rd 1185 which gets too tight for a large RV. The signs will direct you to follow Co Rd 1184 to Co Rd 1187 which is easily navigable by an RV.
Once you arrive at the campground simply follow the signs to the main office. Check in was smooth and simple. The staff was polite and easy to work with. The camp store is small and sparsely stocked (at least while we were there). One of the things I liked about this campground was that I didn't have to decipher the map to find my site. Once you check in, the staff will guide you to your site on a golf cart and make sure you're good to go. After a long day of driving, it's definitely a bonus not to have to figure out where your site is in a 40-acre park.
The sites all appeared to have 30/50-amp, water, and sewer hookups. Everything worked fine and the sites were clean and level. The vast majority of the sites were pull-thru sites and were more than long enough for our 36-foot fifth wheel with room to spare. The width of the sites was pretty average. A little more room between campers would have been nice, but we were by no means on top of each other.
The onsite amenities included a pond which allows fishing, dog park, a small playground, and some of the best trails that I've seen outside of a state/federal park. Also, you'll notice ducks and some other friendly farm animals roaming about the property. They were fun to watch but just be aware if you have a pup that gets overly excited about birds and the like being around. Kids definitely enjoy seeing them walking down the gravel paths and grass patches.
So, back to those hiking trails. When we arrived, I had no idea that the walking trails they talked about were so long and well maintained. I simply decided to take our dog out for a long walk to burn off some energy after being couped up all day driving and to my surprise these trails go a long way back through the woods. They are well marked with signs directing you back to the park and dotted with various grades including one path that leads you down to a really nice stream which our pup had a blast jumping into. They also have some smaller wood bridges along the way.
While I wouldn't classify Cullman Campground as a resort, at the price point they reserve spots at and their proximity to the interstate, this campground is well worth stopping at or staying for a long weekend. Add to that the amenities and trails and I don't know how you could be disappointed with this campground.
A side tip if you're staying at Cullman, just down the road is a fantastic restaurant we found called Puckett's that is worth a visit. They also allow friendly dogs in their outdoor seating area, so the whole crew can come for dinner.
